The Scott Redding BMW Motorrad 2023 WSBK Leather Racing Suit is finished in the BMW Motorrad colours Scott Redding raced during the 2023 World Superbike season.
This suit reproduces that design in full-grain cowhide, cut to your own measurements, with CE Level 2 armour at the shoulders, elbows, knees and back. It suits track days, circuit riding, fast road use and collectors who want the livery made properly rather than printed onto a thin shell.
| Body area | Standard | Level |
|---|---|---|
| Back | EN 1621-2:2014 | Level 2 |
| Shoulders | EN 1621-1:2012 | Level 2 |
| Elbows | EN 1621-1:2012 | Level 2 |
| Knees | EN 1621-1:2012 | Level 2 |
Armour is KeepTech, independently tested and certified by Ricotest, European Notified Body No. 0498, Pastrengo, Italy, under EU Regulation 2016/425 as Category II PPE, CE and UKCA marked. Level 2 transmits about 20 kN in the standard impact test against roughly 35 kN for Level 1.
Most often ordered by riders on the BMW S1000RR, M1000RR, S1000R and F900R. The cut suits a sportbike riding position and works equally on Honda CBR, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, Yamaha R1 and R7, Suzuki GSX-R and Ducati Panigale.
Cut to a close, performance-focused racing fit. Review the full size chart before selecting a standard size, or send your body measurements for the tailor-made option at no extra cost.
A new suit should feel firm standing upright and correct once you are sitting on the bike. Full-grain leather relaxes and moulds to you over the first few rides. Fit is a safety feature, not a preference: a loose suit lets armour migrate off the joint it protects during a crash. Riders wanting more room through the chest, waist or legs should choose a regular or relaxed fit rather than a race fit.
What armour does this suit use?
CE Level 2 at every position — back to EN 1621-2:2014, and shoulders, elbows and knees to EN 1621-1:2012 — tested and certified by Ricotest, European Notified Body No. 0498, Pastrengo, Italy.
Is a World Superbike suit different from a MotoGP suit?
Not in construction. Both are full-grain leather with CE Level 2 armour to the same standards. The difference is the livery — WSBK machines are production-derived, so the team colours often follow the road bike’s scheme more closely.
Can you match my BMW’s exact colour?
Yes. Send a photograph or the paint reference and the leather is dyed to match as closely as hide allows. BMW shades in particular are hard to reproduce in generic coloured leather, which is why custom matching is offered.
How should I care for a leather race suit?
Wipe the exterior with a soft, slightly damp cloth and use a proper leather conditioner when the hide feels dry. Never machine wash, tumble dry or bleach it. Remove the armour and lining before any deep clean, dry it naturally away from direct heat, and store it on a wide hanger.
Can I wear a separate back protector underneath?
You should not need to. The suit has a dedicated back protector compartment already fitted with a CE Level 2 protector certified to EN 1621-2:2014. Adding a second protector underneath usually worsens the fit and lets the armour move.
How long does a leather race suit last?
A full-grain suit that is stored properly and conditioned occasionally will last many seasons of regular use. What usually ends a suit is a heavy crash rather than wear — and after any significant impact the armour should be replaced even if the leather looks intact.
Should I choose cowhide or kangaroo leather?
Kangaroo at 0.8–0.9 mm gives comparable abrasion resistance to cowhide at 1.3–1.4 mm for noticeably less weight, which is why most professional racers use it. Full-grain cowhide is harder wearing over many seasons and costs less.
